Welcome to Beech Class area of the website. Here you will find all the information you require to support your child during their time in Beech Class.
Staff
Mrs Ellin and Mrs Field are the teachers in Beech Class. Mrs Ellin is in Class from Monday to Wednesday and Mrs Field is in class on Thursday and Friday.
Our learning support assistants are Miss Webb on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays and Miss Sherwood on Wednesdays.
Outdoor Learning & PE
Our PE day is Friday. PE kits stay in school for the duration of the term.
Our outdoor learning session is on a Thursday. Please make sure your child has the necessary kit; long sleeved top and trousers, wellies and waterproof clothing, in school for their weekly session. They will get changed into this after lunch.
Ideally, each child needs a pair of welly boots that stay at school, so we can make use of our outdoor areas in wet weather and snow.
Enrichment
We make sure we have lots of fun together and plan exciting, engaging activities for the children to experience. Details of themed days, federation days (with Dallington CE school), trips and visitors will be shared on Arbor and Tapestry.
Home Learning
Please support your child by helping them with home learning, as detailed on our 'home learning menu'. Each week they will bring home grapheme cards (letters) that they have learnt in phonics that week. Teachers will add these to the children's phonics keyring. Please help them to practice quick recognition of the grapheme so they can say the phoneme (sound) that links to that grapheme. You can also use the grapheme cards to build words to practice reading.
Reading
Please read at home as much as possible! Enjoy sharing texts with your child and, very importantly, listen to them read their Phonics Shed book. Your child needs to read their Phonics Shed book at least three times a week, ideally every day! This will support them in becoming a fluent reader, applying their phonics skills and recognising common exception words on sight. Please record their reading in the yellow reading record. If a child has read three times in one week, they receive a raffle ticket and are entered into our weekly reading raffle in our celebration assembly. If they read six times, they receive two raffle tickets! For each time a child has read at home they are awarded a house point!
Letter Formation
As we teach the children to recognise and read each letter and say its related sound in our phonics lessons, we also teach the correct letter formation. Correct letter formation is incredibly important as it lays the foundation for reading, writing and overall literacy development. Please encourage your child to form their letters correctly when they are writing at home and help us to address any 'bad habits' with formation or pencil grip. Please speak to a teacher if you have any concerns or need support with this.
